Professional Driver Qualification Act (BKrFQG)

Basic qualification:
Since 09.09.2008 there has been a new legal requirement for all newcomers to the bus driving license and from 09.09.2009 for all applicants for a truck driving license: the obligation to acquire a basic qualification. This can be acquired in 3 ways:
1. either by attending a driving school
(depending on previous ownership, either as a newcomer with 47 teaching units or as a newcomer with 187 teaching units)
2. or by taking a 7.5-hour theoretical and practical examination at the IHK
(without compulsory instruction)
3. or by completing vocational training BKF (professional driver)/FiF (specialist in driving operations)

This obligation to obtain an initial qualification and subsequent mandatory further training applies to anyone who uses their driving license for commercial activities (including company transport). After the initial qualification, the regular driving license is acquired.

Further training:

In addition, every professional driver must submit proof of 35 hours of 60-minute training to the driving license office every five years.
This further training obligation also applies to professional drivers in passenger transport who have already obtained their driver’s license since September 10, 2008 and use it commercially. The further training course can be completed in one go or divided into 5 parts over a longer period (up to five years). There is no examination for further training.
Proof of training is sufficient and must be submitted to the driving license office. There, the certificate is entered in the driver’s license with the key code 95.

The following modules are available for truck training:

• Modul 1: Eco-Training
• Module 2: (Social) regulations for freight transport
• Module 3: Safety training and driving safety
• Modul 4: Driver control center: service provider, image bearer, professional
• Modul 5: Load securing

The BUS training program comprises the following modules:

• Modul 1: Eco-Training
• Modul 2: Market and image
• Modul 3: Safety technology and driving safety
• Modul 4: Social regulations, risks and emergencies in road traffic
• Modul 5: Fahrgastsicherheit und Gesundheit

Each module must have been taken once for further training. Our driving school offers all modules alternately. These regulations currently apply primarily to learner drivers who wish to obtain a bus driver’s license.
From September 10, however, this will also apply to learner drivers who wish to obtain a truck driving license.
